Key Club Hours

Definition of a Service Hour:

According to Key Club International, A service-hour constitutes any hour of service performed by an individual Key Club member with the approval of his/her club’s board of directors. (Key Club International Guide book: Article XXVII: Section F: Sub-section 7). This means that each club’s Board of Directors directly chooses how and which hours count towards a member’s overall service total.

Importance of Service Hours:

Keeping track of service hours is extremely essential to see progress within your club, division, and district. Every single hour counts and it is also a great way to see how much you have served in total every year. Check out our Service Hour Guide and Service Hour Forms below to learn more about service hours.

What is a Service Hour:

- Projects pre-approved or organized by the individual Key Club

- Any project that improves the community

- Book drives, food drives or any other drive benefitting others (the service hour is the actual time worked to collect, count, package, and/or deliver the objects. Hours are not given based on items provided)

- Serving as a host club at the District Education and Leadership Conference or Key Club International

- Conventions/Conferences (actual time worked, not time spent attending these events)

- The time spent in planning a project will be counted as a reportable service hour

- The time spent participating in service projects held at Divisional, District, and International events

What is NOT a Service Hour:

- Attendance at DCMs, KCKCs, Zone Rallies, DCON, and ICON

- Club, Board, committee or other non-service planning or meetings

- Any Kiwanis Family meetings where project planning was not its

purpose

- Socials, parties, dances, or church services

- Fundraisers for the individual Key Club’s own use

- Time spent not working during overnight service projects such as eating and sleeping

- Providing transportation for members and time spent going to and from a service project

- Paid and unpaid internships

- Any time in which a member is paid for his or her services (unless the

payment is to the club to be used in community service)

Hour Requirements:

Key Club Members must have 50 service hours by the end of each year and are encouraged to earn these in a timely manner, not trying to cram them in at the end of the year. Service hours will be reviewed by the Club Secretary (Cole Wheeler) and added to a members hour log should they satisfy all of the Key Club International Service Hour Requirements!

Hour Submission:

Please submit your hours using the Microsoft Form provided in the "Submit Hours" section of this website. Your hours will be counted if and only if the accompanying forms are also completed. The Paper Hour Form must be completed in order for members to get credit for their hours unless a exception is granted by the Key Club Secretary, Cole Wheeler. The Paper Hour Form is available on the "Resources" page of the website and on our Microsoft Teams Page for download, as well as in the Mailroom and Library on campus.

Hour Recording:

All hours submitting throughout the entire week will be reviewed and recorded once a week by the Key Club Secretary, Cole Wheeler. Members can view recored hours on the "View Hours" section of the website.
